Here are examples of wildlife drawings done throughout my life. They demonstrate that the natural world has been a permanent passion for me.

As I was growing up I was most comfortable drawing. I would spend many hours drawing anything interesting, and that was invariably some photograph from a book on nature or something in the back garden.

Kingfisher: Age 8
Kingfishers were probably the first birds that I fell in love with. To be honest, I'm probably a bit fearful of painting them now, in case I don't get them right. Its a good job I wasn't scared at 8.
Squirrel: Age 9
The thing that scares me most about this drawing, is that I would struggle to better it in terms of a quick sketch now.

Drinking Giraffe: Age 12
I remember thinking that giraffes looked funny when they had to drink, and wondered why they were made that way, when it made drinking so difficult for them.

Album cover: Age 15
I was struck by the simplicity of this Fleetwood Mac album cover (black magic woman), so decided to simplify it even further in a drawing (it was originally a photograph), to see if it made the image even more striking.
Spotted Orchid: Age 21
I wasn't really growing up any more but this was done whilst at college training to be an illustrator. It shows a style of high realism that I don't really use any more.
